By any measure, Toro Rosso's partnership with Honda has begun with the best possible start in 2018.
The team has wrapped up their first major milestone of the year, completing 324 laps in the first official four-day Fomrula 1 test.
The new Honda-powered car racked up the most laps of any team during the test, with only minimal technical difficulties briefly halting Kiwi Brendon Hartley on the second day. A vast improvement in reliability compared with their last partner, McLaren, where both parties seemed to encounter endless issues.
How could Honda turn its performance around so quickly? Well, early guesstimations within the Formula 1 paddock suggest there are two key areas - the engine and its packaging - and video from the first test reveals just how far Honda has come in the winter break.

The noise from the 2018 engine - codenamed the Honda RA618 V6 - is vastly different to its predecessor, or any other hybrid V6 built under current regulations.
In fact, the new Toro Rosso might just be the rowdiest hybrid Formula 1 car ever built. It almost sounds like it wants to tear itself apart - yet it survived four days of testing in one piece.
For reference, the Mercedes F1 car shows up at the 1:50 mark with the usual V6 hum we've become accustom to in recent years.
According to Honda, the 2018 engine isn't an 'all new' unit, but a development of the 2017 engine used by McLaren.
Whether that's true or not, Honda has finally delivered Formula 1 fans a hybrid engine that will draw crowds closer to the fence with a noise any team would want emanating out the garage.
