A new trailer for the highly anticipated Formula One movie, F1, starring Brad Pitt, has dropped - coinciding with the early stages of the 2025 F1 season.
Directed by Top Gun: Maverick filmmaker Joseph Kosinski, the film is set for a New Zealand and global release on June 25, 2025.
The Greatest That Never Was
Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former rising star in Formula One whose career was derailed by a crash in the 1990s.
Over the next three decades, he bounces around as a journeyman racer until his former teammate, now an F1 team owner (played by Javier Bardem), offers him a surprise return to the grid.
However, he must navigate a tense dynamic with the team’s rookie phenom, played by Damson Idris.
Real racing, minimal CGI
Filming took place during the 2023 British Grand Prix, with professional drivers piloting a modified Mercedes-AMG F1 car to capture high-speed action. Kosinski reportedly aimed to minimise CGI, opting for authentic on-track footage instead.
Pitt and Idris also reportedly trained behind the wheel to enhance realism in select scenes.
Lewis Hamilton's influence
Seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton served as a producer, ensuring the film stays true to the sport’s nuances.
With its high-stakes plot, real-world F1 action, and an A-list cast, F1 is shaping up to be a must-watch for motorsport fans and film buffs alike. It will also stream on Apple TV+ following its theatrical release.
