If the trends of YouTube in 2017 can be remembered for one thing, it would most likely be the advent of the slo-mo channel.

This year's seen plenty of channels dedicated to slow-motion footage gain prominence; whether it's people chopping iPhones in half with burning hot swords, or people crushing Playdough with a hydraulic press.

But video makers dedicated to slo-mo footage have been around for years and years, and perhaps one of the most well-known channels for such things are The Slo Mo Guys

Chances are that even though you might not be familiar with their channel on the surface, you'll have seen some of their incredible footage before. That's because the channel's founders and creators have long had a close relationship with BBC's Top Gear

The fascinating episode that saw a Renault Espace get annihilated by a train? Yep, that was one of theirs.

Anyway, the relationship with the show has clearly leaked over to The Grand Tour. In conjunction with the car show, the slo-mo gents concocted this video of cars getting smited by a massive four-tonne wrecking ball.

It's a mesmerizing watch; filled with shattering glass, irreparably bruised panels, and a generally thick layer of carnage. The poor victims include a lovable Honda Element, and a BMW 3-Series convertible.

Part of me wants to decry this clip as another instance of unnecessary car destruction. But the other half of me can't help but reach over for more popcorn.

Mmmm. Popcorn.
