German sledgehammer smashes records at famed circuit
Ask yourself; what could you accomplish in seven minutes and 11 seconds.
Could you tidy your room? Make your bed? Organize your desk? Microwave a frozen meal, stir it, microwave it again, and let it cool?
Well AMG can go one better than whatever you or I can do. Because, as confirmed with the team at Sport Auto, they can lap the full Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Now that time isn't just quick quick, that's record pace quick — quick enough for the lime green AMG GT R they peddled to claim the prize for quickest rear-wheel drive production car lap ever set at the Green Hell (discounting laps set by Radical and the rest of the borderline pack).
Only four production cars have trumped the AMG — Nissan's GT-R Nismo, Lamborghini's Aventador SV, and the Porsche 918 Spyder on a sizzling 6:57.00.
So what separates the AMG GT R from the GT S? 55kW and 50Nm of growth to the outputs of its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, for one — a set-up good enough for reported a 0–100km/h of 3.6 seconds. A wider track and tarted up aero plays a part too.
The AMG GT is perhaps one of the most underrated supercars in the world. This does nothing but underline that.
