The next generation of Europe’s bestselling midsize premium SUV - the Volvo XC60 - will be available to Kiwi motorists from November with prices starting at $84,900 plus on road costs.
The XC60 line-up will feature five choices of powertrain including both petrol and diesel alternatives as well as the flagship of the range, the T8 Twin Engine Plug-In Hybrid first seen in New Zealand in the XC90. All new XC60 models feature all-wheel drive, and there will be three levels of specification available: Momentum, Inscription and R-Design.
Pricing for the XC60 T5 Momentum with it’s turbocharged 2-litre engine will start at $84,900 plus on-road costs, while the range-topping XC60 T8 R-Design which accounts for more than half of the customer orders received to date is priced from $117,900 plus on-road costs.
Volvo’s NZ general manager Coby Duggan says early interest in the new model has been strong with self driving technology becoming more important to premium SUV buyers.
“Kiwi consumers are increasingly aware of the safety benefits of automation in vehicles and the Model Year 2018 XC60 will be one of the most advanced SUV’s on New Zealand roads.
“In addition to the impressive array of safety technology in the previous generation of this model, new features are being introduced as standard like Oncoming Lane Mitigation which alerts a driver who has unwittingly wandered out of their lane and provides automatic steering assistance, guiding them back into their own lane and out of the path of any oncoming vehicle he says.
The 2018 XC60 is the first of the all-new 60 series cars produced on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform and includes elements of the new Volvo design language such as the distinctive Thor’s Hammer LED headlights. All XC60s will come equipped with a class-leading level of standard equipment including a 360-degree camera, navigation, Park Assist Pilot, keyless entry, handsfree tailgate and Apple Carplay / Android Auto integrated into the Sensus system with its intuitive nine-inch touch screen.
Optional features such as soft Nappa Leather seats with ventilation and massage, Bowers & Wilkins Premium Sound and four-corner air suspension provide XC60 customers with the opportunity to add even more personalisation.
The XC60 features Lane Keeping Aid as standard. Oncoming Lane Mitigation and Steer Assist will join the standard Intellisafe City Safety system, which includes pedestrian, cyclist, vehicle and large animal detection with automatic emergency braking.
In addition, Volvo’s Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) will also be enhanced by Steer Assist helping to avoid potential collisions with vehicles in a blind spot by steering the car back into its own lane and away from danger.
The first XC60s are set to arrive in NZ in November in limited numbers, with pre-sales now underway.
