VW adds new crossover Golf line-up

Volkswagen has reportedly confirmed it will introduce a new crossover-style SUV model, expanding the Golf range of models.

The new model will sit underneath the new Tiguan SUV range, according to Autocar magazine. The magazine quotes Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess as confirming a decision has been made to use the T-Roc badge used for a concept vehicle, for the new production model.

However he said the production T-Roc would have a fixed roof, rather than the targa roof of the concept vehicle.

The new model would have a five-door hatchback layout similar to that of its more conventional Golf sublings.

However Autocar says the new model will have a uniquely styled steel body.

Like the Golf and Tiguan, the T-Roc will be based on Volkswagen's versatile MQB platform, and will have the same dashboard and features of the newly unveiled facelifted seventh-generation Golf.

Autocar said Volkswagen was also developing plug-in hybrid and pure-electric versions of the T-Roc, which would share their drivelines with the Golf GTE and e-Golf models.
