Skoda will premiere their first full electric vehicle at Shanghai Motor Show in April.
The all-new five-door Vision E SUV is powered by two electric motors with a combined output of 225kW. The car will house a lithium-ion battery pack able to travel up to 500km.
Drive can go to all four wheels, but front and rear drive will be suitably adjusted for driving conditions, safety and efficiency.
Vision E will also meet level 3 requirements for autonomous driving. This means it can operate independently in traffic jams, go into autopilot on motorways, stay in lane and swerve around hazards, carry out overtaking manoeuvers, independently search for free parking spaces and park, and leave parking spaces independently.
The first official sketches released by Skoda show an SUV with a sporty, coupe-like silhouette due to a sloping roof line. The front end features a dual linear design for the headlamps and driving lights. In the rear, the design language appears much closer to Skoda’s forthcoming Kodiaq SUV.
The cabin hasn’t been revealed yet, but thanks to a long wheelbase of 2,840mm, width of 1,917mm, height of 1,550mm and short overhangs, Skoda say their designers have been supplied ample room to create an extremely spacious interior.
Skoda are intensively pursuing electrification of their model range, and will be offering five purely electric models in various segments by 2025. A Skoda Superb plug-in hybrid variant is also scheduled for a 2019.
