Tesla’s Electric GT Championship car has made its first on track appearance in a newly released promotional video for the series that begins next year.
The championship was announced back in March, when the Tesla Model S version P85+ was chosen for the first season.
The Model S is already one of the quickest production vehicles on the market, but the GT Championship version will be a bit peppier than the one we can buy for the road.
The battery and 310kw (416hp) electric motor set-up will remain stock, but drive will only go the rear wheels in the GT version.
The body will receive a full aero package and carbon fiber body panels. Chassis will be beefed up with a full roll cage, brake package, and double steel wishbones with push-rod suspension.
It’s been announced 10 teams and 20 drivers will compete in the first season. The Electric GT World Series is said to start in Europe before progressing to America and then Asia.
Weekends will consist of a 20-minute practice session, 30-minute qualifying, a day race (60km) and a dusk race (60km).
Fans will be able to stream races via Periscope, Twitch and YouTube.
Dates for the opening round are yet to be announced.
