Variety Trillian Bash convoy gathers

Classic cars make every journey an adventure, and that’s already been the case at the Variety Trillian Bash, with the PowerParts Thunderbirds temporarily halted at Matamata by a broken flux capacitor, the 1981 International Beststart fire appliance towed off the Desert Road and awaiting help from the NZAF mechanical support crew, and the Stu’s Crew 1963 Fairlane initially failing scrutineering for a rear-mirror issue, also fixed by the NZAF.

However spirits are high after the first donation was made, a cheque for $4668 to Bulls School for a basket swing.

The Ohakune Seuss Subbus team captain handed the cheque to principal Kim Gordon, who said the school had requested the swing for students who have trouble paying attention in the classroom.

Ms Gordon said, “The teachers suspect that some of their students suffer from FASD. Studies show that ‘rhythmic patterning’ calms the brainstems and allows children to be better focused in the classroom. The school has already noticed an improvement by using rocking horses in the classrooms, and believes that a swing will bring a significant change.”

The Trillian Variety Bash event officially starts in Levin on Saturday morning, and is due at the Bluebridge ferry dock by noon to meet and entertain a group of children from the Child Cancer Foundation, before boarding the ferry south.

Next stop, Blenheim.
