Toyota New Zealand has just confirmed pricing for the special edition TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Hilux ute models it has been working on since mid-2016.
Featuring a range of exterior matte black TRD accessories and a remote locking motorised ABS plastic hard lid — a New Zealand first, and exclusive to the TRD Toyota — the special edition went on sale from January 1 and the build run is limited to 300 units.
It’s based on the Hilux SR5 double cab diesel model and is available in both 2WD and 4WD, with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions. There’s a choice of seven colours — Silver Sky, Graphite, Glacier White, Eclipse, Olympia Red, Nebula Blue and Inferno.
The 2WD Pre-Runner version is priced at $53,990 with manual transmission and $56,490 with the six-speed automatic – which represents a $4000 premium on the manual model and $4500 for the automatic over standard Hilux models.
The price positioning is quite different for the TRD 4WD models with the $63,990 and $66,490 price tags for manual and automatic respectively being identical to the SR5 Double Cab 4WD models and therefore offering a significant value boost over the standard versions.
The TRD accessories add a bold visual point of difference to the Hilux with 18-inch black alloy wheels shod with 265/60 R18 Maxxis All Terrain tyres along with a lid mounted sports bar, TRD fender flares, honeycomb TRD front grille, front alloy nudge bar and bonnet garnish all in matte black.
TRD badging appears on the tailgate along with decals on the wellside and the embroidered floor mats.
For security purposes, the wellside tray has a remote locking motorised ABS plastic hard lid with LED interior light and anti-jam technology. There’s also an anti-slip liner covering the deck area.
TRD is Toyota’s global in-house division which produces performance parts and accessories for a wide range of its models.
