The 2019 Prius has landed in New Zealand and it's sporting some snazzy new lines. But has Toyota done enough to change people's minds on one of the most left-field designs in modern day motoring?
The revised front and rear ends of the Prius bring cleaner lines with them, and the updated wheels compliment this perfectly. The updated headlights are particularly interesting - they're strangely reminiscent of Ferrari's 488 GTB lights.
When it comes to doing what a hybrid does best, the Prius retains a 3.4L/100km fuel consumption rate and puts out 80kg/km combined carbon dioxide emissions.
“For almost two decades Prius has delivered drivers with extraordinary fuel efficiency and reliability,” says Neeraj Lala, Toyota New Zealand’s General Manager of Product and New Vehicle Sales.
“It has been the cornerstone of development in advanced hybrid technology and has led to the introduction of Corolla and RAV4 hybrids.”
The low centre of gravity of the car is emphasised by the horizontal taillights and the built-in spoiler.
Inside the car, Toyota has aimed to improve the driver and passenger experience with the help of hands-free software that utilises Siri or Google Assistant to easily make calls or even check the weather at your destination.
There are two options of the 2019 Prius available, the SX which retails for $39,990 and the ZR for $46,990.
There are a few differences between the two models, including leather accented seat material, and eight-way powered driver's seat, and front seat heaters that are included with the ZR.
