The Toyota's ute-based Fortuner has been given an aggressive upgrade with the inclusion of a Toyota Racing Development (TRD) enhanced version of the seven-seat SUV to the New Zealand line-up.
TRD is Toyota’s global in-house division which produces performance parts and accessories for the company's models. Last year Toyota also introduced the TRD Hilux ute to New Zealand.
But this is the first time the Fortuner has been given a TRD upgrade and features a TRD honeycomb grille, front spoiler, side steps, rear trunk garnish and 18” wheels added to the top-of-the-range Fortuner Limited.

“The TRD Fortuner has all the head turning features of the Fortuner Limited and maintains its off-roading credentials, with the distinctive TRD treatment,” says Toyota New Zealand GM of Product Planning and new vehicle sales, Neeraj Lala.
“The result is a beefed up, great looking, top end SUV which follows in the footsteps of other popular Toyota TRD models.”
Available in three colours - Crystal Pearl White, Graphite Grey or Eclipse Black - the Fortuner TRD includes all of the Limited’s luxury interior fittings like such as leather accented seats and a premium JBL audio system with 11 speakers, making the TRD version the most distinguished Fortuner yet.
The engine and gearbox remain unchanged, using a 2.8-litre turbo diesel producing 130kW of power and 450Nm of torque and coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
While the TRD Fortuner will struggle to thrill on track, its performance shines through when the going gets rough. Featuring an off-road wading depth of 700mm and approach and departure angles of 30 and 20 degrees respectively, the 2.7-tonne Fortuner is built for exploring.
The TRD Fortuner package retails at Toyota's Driveway Price of $59,990, including of the cost of the vehicle, registration, a full tank of fuel, the Toyota Care Service Advantage package, floor mats and 1,000kms of pre-paid road user charges.
