This month has been good for the world of miniatures. First Chevrolet and Hot Wheels combined with a new special edition Camaro, and now Toyota have climbed onto the bandwagon with the reveal of this big blue bruiser.
That label is a literal one ... the official name for this behemoth is 'Toyota Hilux Bruiser'. Is the same name, the same colour, and has the same stickers as a Tamiya remote control truck that once owned cult status in the UK as 'the toy to have' in the '80s.
And don't think this is just a lift kit and a wrap. No, this thing comes with a giant freaking on/off switch in the bed. And still it goes on.
An aerial protrudes out of the center of the bed, and the front nudge bar and custom running boards is depicted in white. This goes for the rear cab, too, which is refashioned to look as close as possible to the mini-me original.
The rear window is louvered, and the chrome wheels nestled inside those meaty 35-inch tyres are a dead ringer for those on the remote control car. The tyres and lift are part of an upgrade by Arctic Trucks. If that name rings a bell, then you're probably a frequent viewer of Top Gear — where in an episode Clarkson and May took an Arctic Trucks–modified Hilux to the North Pole.
Though, the big Bruiser won't be following soon. Instead it's destined for a future of touring the UK at all sorts of events, where it's sure to be swamped by Tamiya owners young and old.
Sadly there are no plans to take it into production. But those after the nostalgia kick might find their own resolution just a few eBay clicks away...
