Six stars and a stig confirmed for new season of Top Gear UK

Top Gear UK have announced their full cast for the new season, a cast that will comprise of six hosts, as well as the return of The Stig.

The previously confirmed names of Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc have now been complemented by the additions of Chris Harris, Sabine Schmidt, Rory Reid, and Eddie Jordan.

Harris, an online car reviewing sensation, and Schmidt, the noted Nürburgring expert, had both been previously heavily linked to the new roles after they were named by numerous sources in December.

With rumours continuing to swirl, Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard's names were also linked to the BBC programme. Jordan, a former Formula 1 team owner and presenter on the BBC's Formula 1 coverage, is now confirmed as part of the show.

“I have such enormous respect for all my fellow presenters and I politely ask that they go easy on these old bones," said Jordan in the show's press release.

Perhaps the most surprising name on the list is that of Rory Reid. Reid's resume includes experience on BBC's Radio 5 Live, as well as time spent as a host of Sky 1's Gadget Geeks.

“When I submitted my 30-second audition tape, I knew the odds were very firmly against me," Reid said.

“To be the only person to make it through the open audition process makes me immensely proud. I’ve been a Top Gear fan for decades, but more than that, I live and breathe cars in a way that is perfectly compatible with the show,” he added.

The show will return to screens in Europe later this year on May 8.
