Cult street racer finally arrives on PlayStation 5.

  • Tokyo Xtreme Racer lands on PlayStation 5 on February 26, 2026.
  • The PS5 version includes new cars, drivable traffic vehicles and the return of replay mode.
  • All updates tied to the console launch will also be integrated into the Steam version.

After more than a year as a PC-only revival, Tokyo Xtreme Racer has made the jump to PlayStation 5, and the wait is almost over.

Genki has confirmed the cult street-racing title launches on PS5 on February 26, priced at US$50 (around NZ$80). Console players can now dive into the neon-lit expressways of the cult-classic video game.

The port arrives shortly after the game exited Steam Early Access in late 2025, graduating to Version 1.0 with expanded content and quality-of-life upgrades.

From Early Access to full console debut

When Tokyo Xtreme Racer first launched in Early Access on PC, one of the biggest drawbacks was its hardware demands. Now, with the PlayStation 5 release imminent, that barrier disappears for console players who have been waiting on the sidelines.

Version 1.0 introduced new cars, additional rivals, aero parts, wheels and engine swaps, alongside an optional alternate perk tree designed to reduce grind. Support for 30 frames per second on lower-powered hardware also broadened accessibility on PC.

All of those updates will carry forward to PS5, along with further additions tailored to the console launch.

Trucks, replays and more

The February 26 release brings several headline features. New drivable vehicles include the first-generation Honda Fit (Jazz) and Mazda CX-3, but the standout addition is traffic vehicles becoming playable.

For the first time in the modern TXR era, players will be able to race commercial trucks such as the Toyota Dyna, rather than merely encountering them as ambient traffic.

Genki has also confirmed the return of replays, a core feature for long-time fans of the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 originals. Additional language support, including Spanish and French, expands the game’s reach, while players will now be able to choose in-game music.

Importantly, all improvements tied to the PS5 version will be rolled back into the Steam release, ensuring parity between platforms.

Genki has indicated development will continue beyond this launch, hinting at further expansion plans. For now, though, Tokyo Xtreme Racer is finally returning to consoles, and this time, it’s arriving fully formed.
