What you gonna do, when they come for you ...
As New Zealand's police wind down on their temporary tenure with their bevy of V6 and V8-powered Holden Commodores, some will no doubt be wondering about what the next platform of choice will be. We already know it'll be a General Motors product of some kind with a lion badge, but from there who knows. The Commodore's replacement is most likely to come in a front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive format, with performance still a complete unknown. Beyond that there's the smaller Cruze, which is already being used by some police officers in civilian garb.
The three latest additions to Tokyo's police fleet, however, place no doubts on performance.
They come in the form of three Nissan 370Z Nismos. 350 horses, tethered to a small, rear-wheel drive sports car — it's enough to make any would-be speeder think twice. Hopefully. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift would likely have never had happened had these puppies existed at the time.
... OK, I jest, these three cars are unlikely to see much time 'on the beat', since they're effectively just a promotional tool for the local department to stamp their level of power, while simultaneously making cops look cool again (despite those uniforms). Police departments all over the world do this kind of thing all the time, where they take delivery of a performance variant to their fleet in order to get some media mileage.
It's a particularly common practice over the ditch, where a Porsche Panamera, McLaren P1, and Falcon FPV F6 are all among those to recently dress in police clothing for promotional purposes.
But, one can dream.
