Audi's SUV line-up currently covers pretty much all bases. There's the funky millennial-friendly Q2, the more traditional Q3, the mid-size Q5, and the mack-daddy Q7 that comes — among other things — with a hungry 4.0-litre V8 TDiI in its SQ7 variant.
But, that line-up is growing. And the latest addition is the Q8, which is slated to be officially revealed tomorrow in China (following swathes of teaser renders and artist impressions).
But ahead of that reveal, the first photographs of the Q8 have surfaced online.
The Q8 is set to be quite a challenging thing in the looks stakes, thanks largely to the enormous grill structure embedded into the fascia. A curious comparison, but at least a few members of the Driven team thought there were shades of new Chevrolet Camaro and Silverado in the look; since the gaping frontal blackout tapers in from the headlights before flaring out in the bottom like a giant hour-glass.
Others might draw similarities between the design and Audi's e-tron Sportback concept revealed last April.
The interior is quintessentially Audi; punctuated by air vents that extend from one side of the cockpit all the way to the other. Audi's digital-cluster technology is naturally present, and complimented with an array of metals, gloss-black plastics, blue mood lighting, a D-shaped sports steering wheel, and cross-hatched leather inserts in the seats.
Details for now are thin on the ground, and will likely be confirmed tomorrow when the car is formally launched to the public. In terms of engines, it's rumoured that a 250kW 3.0-litre V6 petrol and two 3.0-litre TDI units (creating 170kW and 210kW respectively) will be offered initially. The breakdown of whether each will be backed by hybrid tech will be revealed in due course.
The Q8 is expected to hit showrooms in Europe later this year, with New Zealand reportedly set to follow suit.
