Toyota Australia has partnered with homegrown children's musical group The Wiggles to create a one-of-a-kind electric vehicle (EV), the Big Red Ute.
Designed for use on stage, this pint-sized EV blends Toyota's off-road design heritage with the playful essence of the beloved children's entertainers.
While the vehicle’s vibrant appearance suggests whimsy, there’s real engineering behind its development.
The Big Red Ute borrows design cues from Toyota’s iconic Land Cruiser 70 Series, reimagined with a cheerful twist.
LED headlights double as digital displays, showcasing animations ranging from eyes to hearts. Its muscular fenders, compact 3120mm length, and rainbow-themed 12-inch Turbofan wheels reinforce its rugged yet entertaining character.
Toyota’s Product, Planning, and Development division in Australia oversaw the project, hinting at the potential influence of this design on future compact off-roaders like the speculated 'baby' FJ Cruiser.
Designed for performances, the Big Red Ute accommodates four passengers, complete with seatbelts mounted to an oversized bull bar. A rear bubble machine generates 6000 bubbles per minute, adding to its stage appeal.
Despite its toy-like proportions, the ute is equipped with a functional 48V electric powertrain, independent coil spring suspension and drum brakes. A top speed of 20 km/h ensures safety during performances.
Unveiled during The Wiggles’ Melbourne performance on December 7, the Big Red Ute will accompany the group on their Australian and international tours. The project highlights Toyota’s ability to mix innovation with fun while celebrating three decades of The Wiggles' global success.
