HEROES WILL STIR MEMORIES AND SPEEDSTERS WILL REV YOUR ENGINE
The 10th annual CRC Speedshow displaying cars, bikes, motorsports, products and gear, is on in Auckland next weekend.
The organisers say the event, at the ASB Showgrounds, will celebrate the “finest, fastest and coolest” new and classic cars and motorbikes, race cars, race bikes, motor sport celebrities, wild hot rods and other custom vehicles.
The country’s most notable historic and heroic cars and motorbikes will be part of a one-off display dubbed “HRC Memory Lane”.
A mix of 20 hand-picked race cars and race bikes from yesteryear will be displayed, with owners making their priceless vehicles available to view. Organisers say most of the machines will be recognisable to Speedshow visitors, thanks to their winning performances in New Zealand from 1923 to the present day.
Each car has been selected by a committee made up of racing experts from around New Zealand, including HRC Events manager Chris Watson, who says he’s excited to see the display come together.
Among them will be a 1915 STUTZ Indianapolis 500 Special race car imported in 1923, and raced successfully in many events at the Muriwai Beach races, winning the New Zealand Cup outright in 1926, 1927 and 1928 when owned by Bob Wilson.
It will be the first time in years that these race machines have been seen together, so show visitors are encouraged to take as many photos and videos as they like before the cars return to garages around the country.
Ross Prevette, CRC Speedshow managing director, says it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the cars and bikes up close and personal.
Hot rods and custom vehicles will take pride of place in the Teng Tools Grand National Rod & Custom Show, while import and performance car fans will not be disappointed by the large selection of cool rides, parts, accessories and services on display in their own hall. There will be free seminars, guest appearances from motor sport stars and entertainment.
Television’s Hot Rod Show, hosted by Doug Bell, has been filming the construction of a bespoked T-Bucket hot rod for All Black Brodie Retallick in Hamilton. The vehicle will be unveiled during the Speedshow.
