Reportedly, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is gearing up for an update. This comes less than a year after the car arrived in select markets.

The update is said to include a larger battery pack, increasing battery capacity from 72.6 kWh to 77.4 kWh. The report from Korea claims that the updated Ioniq 5 will have no less than 32 2.4 kW battery modules, rather than 30 modules like it currently has.

An update makes sense for the Hyundai, as the Kia EV6, a car based on the same E-GMP platform as the Ioniq 5, will launch with a 77.4 kWh battery pack.

The larger battery would see the Ioniq 5’s range increase from 423 km to somewhere between 480 and 490 km.

Interestingly, in May this year it was announced that the Ioniq 5 would be released in the US with the larger battery pack. So, this isn't necessarily new news. However, the car is currently being sold in other markets (NZ included) with 58 kWh and 72.6 kWh guises.

There are a number of over-the-air updates also apparently coming to the Ioniq 5, including updates to the infotainment and driver-assistance systems. There could also be an over-the-air update that would enable a V2G (Vehicle to Grid) function, allowing owners to feed energy back into the electrical grid.
