Last week BMW revealed their new 8 Series concept slated for a 2018 release. They also confirmed that they will produce an M8 and a GTE-spec racing version designed to take on the GTE weaponry from Ferrari, Chevrolet, and Porsche.
Part of that confirmation saw the heavily camouflaged M8 visit the Nürburgring Nordschleife over the weekend as part of the manufacturer's presence at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring endurance epic.
And they clearly weren't afraid to scream and shout about their new creation. Video has already emerged of BMW toying around with the right foot and giving spectators a taste of exactly what the M8 will sound like when it rolls out for production.
... Not that we actually know what's lurking beneath that black and white bonnet. It does sound a little like the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 in the new BMW M5, however.
“The future BMW M8 will build on the genes of the 8 Series and augment its DNA with added track ability and generous extra portions of dynamic sharpness, precision and agility,” said the boss of BMW's M Division, Frank Van Meel.
“It all flows into a driving experience that bears the familiar BMW M hallmarks and satisfies our customers’ most exacting requirements.”
