Having the estimated $600,000 to purchase the all-new, highly anticipated Ford GT didn’t necessarily mean you’d be able to get your hands on one. Ford had an application process for the planed run of 500 GT's to be built, with each buyer being handpicked by the company.
The application period is now closed and Ford has selected the 500 lucky souls that’ll get to buy the American supercar.
Now that process is over, customers can now start piecing together what they want their Ford GT to look and feel like. Many car-makers would direct their customers to a website where you can personalize every aspect of your car.
That’s nice and all, but Ford has done something a bit more special for GT customers, sending successful applicants one of the coolest order kits I’ve ever seen.
The Ford GT order kit is truly a work of art.
It’s made from the same carbon fiber weave found on the road car and is opened by a latch identical to one used on the Le Mans GT race car.
Inside, approved owners will find examples of what each customizable part looks like. Eight miniature models show off each of the standard colour options with different racing stripes. Six different wheel and brake caliper combinations will complete the look of the exterior. Samples of carbon fiber, leather and alcantara show buyers what their GT interior will look and feel like.
The order kit case also features a space near the latch where owners can place a replica VIN plate to match their Ford GT – after the customer’s order is complete and a serial number has been assigned, a replica plate will be made and sent to each new owner.
“The Ford GT ordering kit is a critical piece in the purchase process,” said Henry Ford III, global marketing manager, Ford Performance.
“This high-quality kit is a hands-on tool for Ford GT customers to enhance their ordering experience. Authentic colours, finishes and materials will provide an intimate, tactile way to discern the multitude of choices to configure their ideal supercar.”
To help guide new owners through the process, a Ford GT concierge will be made available to each customer, providing an individual service.
Ford denied 6006 applicants the chance of owning a GT – but they’re going all out for the 500 that can.
