The Suzuki Swift Hybrid has earned recognition as the most affordable new car to own and operate, based on an evaluation by the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ).

This compact five-door hatchback outperformed 87 vehicles across 12 categories in the RACQ's 2024 survey, standing out for its cost efficiency in fuel, servicing, tyres and insurance over a five-year span at 15,000km annually.

Although the survey was conducted in Australia, the Swift's popularity and affordability resonate well with New Zealand consumers, where the model continues to dominate its segment.

The Swift maintains a strong foothold in NZ's light car market, holding a 44% share of its category this year - double that of the nearest competitor.

The hatchback's affordability, compact design and comprehensive features have made it a compelling option in the compact segment for several years.

Suzuki New Zealand has equipped the Swift Hybrid with adaptive cruise control, dual sensor brake support, a reverse camera and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, providing excellent value for its price range.

In addition to its popularity in New Zealand, the Swift received the prestigious 'Car of the Year 2024' accolade from the Northern Group of Motoring Writers in the UK.

Judges praised the Swift as an economical, fun-to-drive supermini packed with safety technology. The latest GLS Smart Hybrid model offers a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine paired with a 12V self-charging hybrid system, priced from $25,990(manual) and $27,990(automatic), while the top-tier RSC model is priced at $29,990.

Beyond New Zealand, the Swift remains a best-seller in 169 countries and has driven Suzuki's global sales success, particularly in markets like South Africa and India. Its affordable ownership costs, reliable performance and broad appeal make it a versatile choice for urban and rural drivers alike.

For those looking for a budget-friendly, compact car that doesn’t compromise on features or performance, the Suzuki Swift Hybrid remains an ideal choice.
