AWD Swift build shows what’s possible beyond the city.

AWD Swift build shows what’s possible beyond the city.

Suzuki has created a one-off Swift AllGrip FX based on the all-new Swift, blending modest off-road capability with city-sized practicality.

It’s not built to conquer wilderness trails, but it adds a rugged edge to the familiar hatchback formula, resembling a scaled-down, budget-friendly nod to models like the Porsche 911 Dakar.

The only catch is the Swift AllGrip FX is a one-off for the Netherlands, though the hope is it might inspire owners to personalise their own cars in similar fashion.

Cosmetic lift, no mechanical overhaul

Despite its adventurous looks, the FX is mechanically identical to the standard AWD Swift. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine delivers 61kW, paired with a 12V mild hybrid system and a five-speed manual gearbox.

There are no power or suspension upgrades - though a 32mm lift comes courtesy of the AllGrip setup and chunkier 196/55R16 all-season tyres.

Practical accessories for light adventuring

Suzuki has enhanced the FX with a Thule roof rack to carry snow tracks, a spare wheel, and extra gear - essential, given the boot’s limited 265L capacity.

An integrated Tralert LED bar sits within the grille, while black plastic wheel arch extensions and matching badging toughen up the aesthetic. Rear bumper protection and factory alloys in black complete the exterior updates.

Inside, there’s a mix of upmarket and utilitarian tweaks: leather upholstery, rubber floor mats, a Dometic cool box and extra in-cabin storage. It's clearly not built for serious off-roading, but for light-duty weekend excursions or snow runs, the package adds just enough capability.

A niche experiment

As Suzuki’s own Jimny remains the brand’s proper off-roader, the Swift FX is better viewed as a playful, urban alternative with soft-roading pretensions.

With no plans for production, it’s unlikely to spark a broader trend, although it does highlight what’s possible when manufacturers embrace a bit of creativity.

In New Zealand, the Suzuki Swift is only available in four FWD variants, currently starting at $24,990 for the base GLS manual model.
