Following on from last year's DB9 replacement — the DB11 — the shape of Aston Martin's new V8 Vantage has been revealed in a fresh wave of spy photographs.

What they show is the tight relationship between this project and the DB10 — the gorgeous concept-car star at the centre of the latest James Bond film; Spectre.

While the camouflage hides most of the V8 Vantage's features, it can't hide that it shares more than just a passing resemblance to the so-called DB10. From the flush headlights, to the stout little tail end and the chunky triangular rear exhaust portals — both cars are clear cousins.

Further information is thin on the ground, which is surprising given that the car will be launched before the end of the year according to Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer.

What has been rumoured is that under the bonnet Aston Martin will utilize the same Mercedes-AMG V8 that propels the DB11. Expect though for it to be a detuned variant, producing less than the 447kW and 700Nm of torque it does in the DB11.

Even though it is the smallest Aston, don't underestimate just how important this car will be when it eventually hits the market. The Vantage has long been one of the British marque's best sellers ... and it still sells today thanks to a raft of special limited-edition versions.

At 12-years-old, it's about time Aston Martin rolled out a new one. We'll keep our eyes peeled for more.
