Bidding on charity auction for historic Civic goes through the roof
Honda New Zealand revealed pricing for the incoming Honda Civic Type R earlier today — $59,990, pretty reasonable next to its hot-hatch counterparts.
And also, significantly cheaper than the current price of the first Honda Civic Type R (chassis R-00001) to touch down in America.
To celebrate the launch and support a great cause, it was decided that the Aegean Blue Type R would be donated to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation to help them generate support and proceeds.
It's currently up for online auction at Bring a Trailer, and bidding has hit a barely believable US$200,000. That's NZ$277,000 — enough to buy four Type Rs and a Civic RS Turbo (with a minor discount...). And there's still four days left to go in the auction, meaning that the figure could still increase.
Which is entirely possible. The first Ford Focus RS (ironically, a Type R competitor) sold for US$560,000 (NZ$777,000) early last year in a charity auction for JDRF — a group studying type 1 diabetes research.
And before you call up the fun police here, that leading bid on the Civic is genuine according to the folks at Bring a Trailer.
If you want to top that bid, time's running out.
