Smart has revealed the hottest version of its upcoming mid-size SUV, the #5, and it is even wilder than what we already get here.
We are big fans of Smart's #1 and #3 models, with the mad Brabus versions being a particular highlight of the German/Chinese manufacturers range. While the #5 is set to joining them later this year, the company has just unleashed the Brabus version of the SUV in Europe. And now we want it to come even sooner.
The #5 Brabus will be the most powerful Smart offered, packing an impressive 475kW that will propel the AWD SUV to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds. This compares favourably to the 315kW on offer from the #1 and #3 Brabus variants, although the smaller cars' lower weight helps keep them relatively line-ball in the 0 to 100 sprint, with the #1 doing it in 3.9 seconds and the slipperier #3 knocking it off in 3.7 seconds.
The #5 is built on an 800-volt platform that supports ultra-fast DC charging of up to 400kW, allowing the 100-kWh battery (standard in all #5 models) to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes, and Smart says the hot #5 will have a range of up to 540km (WLTP).

Visually, the Smart #5 Brabus is differentiated from the standard model by its striking 21-inch Brabus 10-spoke Monoblock Z wheels, distinctive red brake calipers, and red external highlights, as well as a lower stance, while on the inside it scores a pair of heated and ventilated front seats, as well as heated seats in the rear, all finished in microfibre with Dinamica accents.
It also gets an Alcantara sports steering wheel with illuminated Brabus lettering, a panoramic sunroof with a microfibre roof lining, sports pedals, and Smart's "Ambient Light+" lighting with 256 colour options.
The infotainment system features dual 13-inch OLED displays for the driver and front passenger, while a 20-speaker Sennheiser Signature audio system delivers "an immersive audio experience" thanks to its 1190 watts of output and full 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos surround sound support.

"The Smart #5 Brabus is the new flagship of our still young all-electric product portfolio," said Dirk Adelmann, CEO of Smart Europe.
"This vehicle embodies our vision of electric performance and redefines what customers can expect from an electric SUV with powerful dynamics, top connectivity features and the finest interior craftsmanship for an unmatched driving experience."
Built on the same Geely SEA2 electric platform as the #1 and #3, the #5 is roughly the same size as a RAV4 and standard models will pack a single 250kW electric motor on the rear axle, as opposed to the hot versions 475kW AWD set up.

While the Brabus version is wildly quick, the #5 is also practical, as a medium SUV should be, with Smart saying the #5 will pack 34 storage compartments around its cabin, while a 72 litre frunk compliments the generous boot that, with the rear seats down, offers up to 1530 litres of load space.
And for those who are fans of camping, all of the #5's seats can be folded flat, creating a double bed-sized sleeping space.
