The new 2019 Peugeot 208 has been greeted with rave reviews ahead of its global debut at next week's Geneva Motor Show.
Pictures released by Peugeot show a sharp but appealing small hatchback model, which the company says will be lighter but quieter and smoother than the previous model.
It will be powered by a 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine or a 1.5 litre four-cylinder diesel engine. The petrol version has a five-speed manual gearbox, while the diesel is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.
Peugeot says in the future it will introduce a 75kW petrol model with a six-speed manual or eight-speed auto and a range-topping 97kW model, sold exclusively with the eight-speed automatic gearbox.
In addition, the French manufacturer has developed an all-electric version, the e-208.
This model uses a 50kWh battery pack and an electric motor to deliver 101kW and 260Nm of torque, allowing for a 0-100km/h time of 8.1 seconds.
The 50kWh battery pack is installed under the floor and can power the Peugeot e-208 for an impressive 340km under the WLTP cycle. The electric 208 supports 100 kW rapid charging that can top up the battery to 80 per cent capacity in just 30 minutes.
Commentators have praised the appearance of the new 208, saying it clearly takes after the larger Peugeot 508 sedan. For example, the headlights feature similar diagonal strakes and a smart grille.
