This small people mover has big ambitions.

  • The Renault Trafic Escapade introduces a foldaway bed, swivelling seats and a compact kitchen with sink and cooktop.
  • Two 2.0-litre Blue dCi diesel engines are available, producing 110kW or 125kW with up to 380Nm of torque.
  • Launching early 2026, the Escapade will offer modern driver aids and 17-inch alloys.

Renault’s new Trafic Escapade recently rolled into the Van Life Expo with a simple pitch: all the freedom, none of the fuss.

The compact camper takes the familiar Trafic platform and gives it a weekend-ready makeover, complete with a foldaway bed, swivelling seats and a clever kitchen tucked neatly in the back.

The “kitchen” might be the smallest one you’ll ever tour, but it earns its name. There’s a gas cooktop, foldable sink with spray nozzle and a 5-litre water tank, enough for a quick brew or a tidy-up after a long tramp. Higher trims even add a folding table, because every adventurer needs a place to set their cuppa.

Comforts you can actually use

Renault keeps things practical with Evolution and Iconic grades, both bringing kit that makes road trips smoother: rear-view camera, driver assists and 17-inch alloys as standard.

Inside, you’ll find modern niceties like wireless phone charging, automatic climate control, and an 8-inch Easy Link touchscreen to keep playlists and navigation sorted.

The design doesn’t pretend to rival a full-size motorhome - and that’s the point. It’s an honest, accessible setup for those who’d rather spend on petrol than plush fittings.

Modest power, maximum freedom

Two 2.0-litre Blue dCi diesels power the range. The entry option makes 110kW and 350Nm, paired with either a manual or a nine-speed auto. The punchier 125kW version bumps torque to 380Nm but sticks solely with the automatic gearbox.

Pricing isn’t out yet, though Renault plans to keep it friendly for first-time van lifers. Expect the Trafic Escapade to hit showrooms early next year, just not in New Zealand.
