The route for the 2018 Dakar Rally will see the endurance adventure event return to Peru next January.
The 40th anniversary Dakar -- and the 10th since it moved from Africa to South America -- will start on January 6 from the Peruvian capital of Lima.
Peru was a host country for the Dakar Rally in 2012, when it finished in Lima, and again in 2013 when it hosted the start of the rally.
The 2018 route will initially head south-east through the Peruvian dunes and climb into the Andes to also visit Bolivia and Argentina.
The Bolivian element of the route again takes competitors to the shores of Lake Titicaca and includes the mid-rally rest day in the capital of La Paz on January 12.
The special stages in the spectacular salt flats of the Altiplano and mountain roads at altitudes up to 5000m will challenge competitors.
The third country on the 2018 itinerary is Argentina with the rally finish on January 20 to be at Cordoba.
This route takes the Dakar competitors into some of the terrain familiar to competitors in Argentina's round of the World Rally Championship.
Fourteen special stages are planned next year.
Full details of the stages and distances to be covered are yet to be confirmed.
