A special Volkswagen ID.Buzz has been transformed to complement the rugged Porsche 911 Dakar, sporting an unmistakable Rothmans-inspired livery.
Crafted by Porsche Classic Center Gelderland in the Netherlands, this custom electric van serves as the perfect support vehicle for a rally-themed garage.
Retro livery with a modern twist
The one-off ID.Buzz wears a dark blue and white wrap accented by red and gold graphics, mirroring the optional Rally Design Pack available for the 911 Dakar.
Porsche lettering and racing stickers enhance the motorsport aesthetic, evoking memories of the brand’s 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally triumph.
Due to tobacco advertising restrictions, the Rothmans logo has been swapped for 'Rough Roads' branding, keeping the vintage spirit alive without breaching regulations.
RWD powertrain
Unlike the GTX all-wheel-drive model, this ID.Buzz is based on the rear-wheel-drive passenger variant.
Under the skin, it delivers 210kW, ensuring enough power to tow the Dakar-bred 911 while staying true to its electric roots.
While it lacks the dual-motor punch of the GTX (250kW), the ID.Buzz's performance focus remains secondary to its striking tribute design.
A tradition of Porsche-themed VW vans
This isn’t the first time a VW ID.Buzz has received Porsche-inspired treatment.
In 2023, Porsche Netherlands commissioned eight ID.Buzz Renndienst specials, paying homage to the air-cooled VW T1 and T2 vans that once supported the brand’s racing efforts.
Historically, Porsche has also modified VW vans with genuine performance upgrades - most notably the B32, a 1985 VW Transporter T3 fitted with a Carrera-derived 3.2-litre flat-six producing 170kW.
The bespoke ID.Buzz could inspire 911 Dakar owners to seek matching liveried tow vehicles.
Meanwhile, for those who missed out on the current 911 Dakar, reports suggest a facelifted 992.2 version is due in 2026, potentially featuring a hybrid powertrain derived from the 911 GTS.
With Porsche’s rally legacy firmly intact, enthusiasts may see more rally-themed builds emerging in the near future
