Pepita, Pasha and tartan mark their return.

Pepita, Pasha and tartan mark their return.

  • Porsche has reissued original seat fabrics such as Pepita and Pasha designs for classic models.
  • The new textiles are tested for fire resistance, colour and light fastness, and abrasion durability.
  • Owners can order factory-correct fabric rolls through Porsche Centres or the Porsche Online Shop.

Porsche is bringing back some of its most recognisable cabin textiles: Pepita, Pasha, tartan and more, so owners can restore classic car interiors with the real deal rather than “close enough” knock-offs.

The reissued fabrics are available to order through Porsche Centres or the Porsche Online Shop, and cover a surprisingly broad spread of models, from the 356 right through to various generations of 911.

Not just nostalgia

Porsche says the point isn’t merely retro vibes but also restoring cars to the right spec, especially where time, wear or past modifications have muddied the waters.

“By reissuing these fabrics we are closing a gap, because most customers want to restore their historic or more recent classic cars to their original condition as closely as possible," says Ulrike Lutz, Director Classic at Porsche.

And Porsche isn’t shy about taking a swing at the aftermarket: “Unfortunately, there are many imitations on the market that are either not at all suitable as seat fabric or lose their appearance after a short time. That's why we want to offer our customers a tested original alternative again."

The nerdy part

These textiles are sold as Porsche Genuine Parts and are tested for things like fire resistance, light and colour fastness, and abrasion resistance.

They’re intended for typical trim jobs (seat centres, covers and side panels) and come in 1.5m by 2m sizes. Porsche notes its Technical Certificate for classic vehicles can be used as a reference for original specifications.

There’s also a practical angle: “Often, the upholsterer only has to reupholster the driver's seat. In these cases, our aim is to ensure that it continues to match the front passenger seat, which will usually still have its original covering," explains Product Manager Lukas Werginz.

Archive diving, plus one very lucky seat

To get the patterns and colours right, Porsche leaned heavily on its archive, and even hunted down rare stock pieces.

Werginz recalls finding an untouched green tartan 911 seat in the US, preserved in the dark: “Stored in a light-proof cupboard, and therefore perfectly preserved, this new-old-stock item was gold dust for us,” he says.
