It's here. It's finally here.

After a heap of build-up compounded by video and imagery of it draped in a thick black camouflage frock, we've been given our first sighting of the new 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS — the most powerful ever entry to the exclusive 911 club.

The launch was a strange one from left field, with the car unveiled at the dual launch of the Forza Motorsports 7 racing simulator at Los Angeles' annual E3 electronic expo. The connection? Well, the car will adorn the video game's cover art and be one of its hero cars. Much like the Ford GT in the previous game.

So, what do we know about the bruiser from Stuttgart. Well, not a lot has been confirmed. It's been reported elsewhere that it will be the most explosive model in Porsche 911 history to date. Tech site The Verge initially reported that the car will produce 640hp (477kW) from its rear-mounted 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat six.

Apart from that nugget of potentially drool-worthy information, the only other stuff we can diagnose is the GT2's looks. Which, as they always tend to, take the 911 to new heights of aero-aided visual craziness. A thick front spoiler frames two of the largest nostrils ever seen on the front of a 911. The rear wing is typically brash, while the bonnet comes with a 911-R-esque striping package.

We'll keep you posted when more information comes to hand.
