Fewer cars are more highly anticipated that the Tesla Model 3 — the American marque's first vehicle aimed squarely at the mass market.
And now, thanks to a subtle detail leak, we know a bit more about how the Model 3 will perform. A couple of pages of specs (published as a comparison to the Model S) were published online overnight, detailing a number of previously unknown numbers — numbers that Tesla have since confirmed.
They show that the Model 3 will accelerate from 0–100 in 5.6 seconds, and will have 346km of range. Those numbers are pretty impressive, though they're naturally dwarfed by its big brother Model S.
Apart from comparing and contrasting what will most likely be the brand's number one and number two sellers, the table of data is also reportedly part of an ‘anti sell’ strategy — Tesla's response to thoughts among potential buyers that the Model 3 would be some kind of Model S successor, rather than the brand's entry-level car.
“We want to be super clear that Model 3 is not version three of our car,” Tesla boss Elon Musk said recently.
“Model 3 is essentially a smaller, more affordable version of the Model S with fewer features.”
On top of a slight dip in performance and range, the Model 3 also features one less screen, less space, 'pay-per use supercharging', and less room for customization. However none of this is surprising.
Now all we want to know is when it's coming...
