McLaren has confirmed the next new model to be introduced will be a fresh addition to the Ultimate Series, their top-tire series that currently includes the P1 and P1 GTR.

McLaren say this new model, codenamed P15, will be the 'most extreme, track-concentrated road car' McLaren has ever produced.

While the P15 production car is promised to be the 'ultimate track car,' the finished product will also be road legal. But McLaren are open about the fact that they have sacrificed daily usability to give P15 owners the best possible performance around a circuit. Its design, described as 'brutal', is said to be the purest expression of McLaren's ‘form follows function’ philosophy.

The P15 road car will be officially named and publicly revealed in the first quarter of 2018, before a second future Ultimate Series model, codenamed BP23, which aims to be the world’s first Hyper-GT.

Early reports suggest that the P15 will be powered by a turbocharged combustion engine based on the 4.0-litre V8 used in the 720S. While the BP23 will use a next-generation hybrid drivetrain that benefits from McLaren's P1 project.

McLaren is expected to build 500 P15 road cars, all of which are said to be pre-sold or allocated to customers.

Behind the 720S, the P15 and BP23 are the second and third projects to be made public under McLaren's Track22 business plan. The business case was made public earlier in the year and included plans for McLaren to  introduce 15 new models by the end of 2022.
