One month after the release of a new 19MY Outlander PHEV, Mitsubishi Motors NZ’s (MMNZ) plug-in hybrid SUV has recorded its highest-ever monthly sales figure – helping propel the brand to third spot in the market and its most successful September for 24 years.   

In early August Mitsubishi confirmed an updated Outlander PHEV would arrive in local dealerships with a $55,990 sticker price (plus ORCs), $8,000 below the previous top-of-the-range model and making it the most affordable PHEV that MMNZ has released.   

According to MMNZ, Outlander PHEV sales in September totalled 54 units. MMNZ Chief Operating Officer Daniel Cook attributed the new model’s lower price point and the rising cost of fuel as a key factor for increased customer uptake.

“Outlander PHEV has led its class since its release in 2014; in our latest edition, we wanted to make the PHEV even more accessible to Kiwis looking to embrace this alternative technology,” said Cook.

“We are very pleased to have been able to do that and it is extremely rewarding to see more customers enjoying the benefit.”   

Outlander PHEV has an electric range of 54km and a combined range of over 600km. DC Fast Charge capability can recharge the battery from 0 to 80 per cent in around 20 minutes. 

Alongside Triton (450 units) and Mitsubishi's SUV range - ASX, Outlander and Eclipse Cross (450, 315 and 124 units respectively) - MMNZ finished September with 1,213 units - a 19 per cent year-on-year increase.
