Single-make race classes are great fun aren't they. Plus all your racers into equal, identical machinery and watch them all squirm as things like brake distances, top speeds, and grip levels all equalize.
I personally miss the days of New Zealand's own Suzuki Swift Sport Cup. In its heyday, field were enormous, and the racing was tight. If not a little bit crash heavy ... though that only really served to prove just how tough the cars (and the drivers) were at the time.
Crashes are a commonality in single-make racing, and the UK Renault Clio Cup is the latest to scratch its name into 2017's list after this quite incredible shunt at the fourth round of their season, held at Donington Park.
It's no surprise that this class is one of the lead support categories for the British Touring Car Championship; perhaps the most aggressively fought touring car series on the planet.
The crash itself appears to be a vintage Donington Park turn-one belter. The opening corner is quite a deceptive one — starting very wide before tightening into an almost one-track line to the downhill Craner Curves. What's slightly less clear is how the group of cars behind come to get into their own separate mess.
Ah, who doesn't like entry level motorsport.
