More than 500 motorbikes, including a customised Burt Munro tribute-edition Indian Scout, feature in next weekend’s Classic and Custom bike show, at Auckland’s ASB showgrounds.

The show, organised by the Papakura Rotary Club, has been moved to the showgrounds after outgrowing its previous venue, the Manukau Exhibition Centre.

Indian Motorcycles have donated a 2015 Indian Scout with a customised Burt Munro tribute themed paint scheme, to be auctioned for charity.

The Scout, a 1133cc powered mid-weight cruiser launched in New Zealand last year, has a strong connection with Burt Munro. In August 1967, Munro set the Bonneville speed record on a 1920 Indian Scout, at 295 kph. The record still stands.

Forty-eight years after his record was set, and 95 years after Burt’s original Scout motorbike was built, the special collector's item will belong to the highest bidder at the show.

Rendered in Burt Munro’s racing colours, with his 35 racing number and "Spirit of Munro" logo on the tank, the bike will be a rare beast, and destined to become a sought after collectors item.

Proceeds from the auction will go to supporting local community groups.

Indian will also be showcasing 114 years of motorcycle history with bikes from the current range and those dating back to the brand’s establishment in 1901.
Many of the 500 plus bikes on show will be competing for prizes in all marque categories, including the NZ Classic Bike of the Year award.

The key sponsors for the show are Star Insurance and Indian Motorcycles.
