Nissan has a rich heritage of sports cars, and it can be argued that it all started with the Datsun 240Z, it only makes sense to honour it with an anniversary edition vehicle.
Planning to unveil it at the New York Auto Show later this week, Nissan revealed the 50th Anniversary Edition 370Z that is based on an iconic 240Z race car.
Driven by John Morton, the #46 Brock Racing Enterprises 240Z won back to back SCCA National Championships in 1970 and 1971.
Buyers will have the option of two different BRE-inspired race liveries for the 370Z Sport — a white one with red accents and a silver one with black accents.
All 50th Anniversary cars will have contrasting paint on the bonnet, boot, mirrors and A-pillars. Alongside the livery, a set of updated 19-inch alloy wheels come standard.
While the interior is mostly the same as a standard model, designers have thrown in a few special touches. 50th Anniversary logos are stitched into the updated leather seats, and an Alacantra-wrapped steering wheel takes pride of place in the cabin.
Dark chrome accents and Z-branded door sill plates are a couple of added extras that Nissan has thrown in.
Despite the exterior makeover, Nissan hasn't touched the 3.7-litre V6 that powers the 370. Producing 248kW and 366Nm of torque, it's a completely capable powerplant, but it would've been nice to see an update there. A six-speed manual and a seven-speed automatic transmission are the two options that buyers will have of getting the power to the rear wheels.
No pricing has been announced yet, but owning a piece of Nissan heritage is priceless... Right?
