  • Nissan New Zealand has become the latest distributor to launch a massively expanded warranty program.
  • The new Nissan More Ownership Program includes an industry-leading 10-year/300,000km warranty.
  • After sales and warranties are fast becoming the biggest battleground in the new car industry in the face of ever-increasing Chinese competition.

Nissan New Zealand has officially launched the Nissan More Ownership Program, a comprehensive initiative that introduces what it says is the country’s only 10-year/300,000-kilometre warranty.

Nissan says the program is designed to provide New Zealand motorists with "unprecedented peace of mind, cost certainty, and long-term vehicle value across the entire Nissan range."

Nissan has expanded its Australian industry-leading 10-year/300,000km warranty program to New Zealand.

The centrepiece of the initiative is a service-activated warranty that effectively doubles the standard coverage period. By maintaining scheduled maintenance within the authorised Nissan dealer network, owners can extend their protection from the traditional five-year or 150,000-kilometre limit to a full decade. This coverage includes all parts and components protected under the original New Vehicle Warranty, with the exception of normal wear and tear.

To remain eligible for the extended 10-year coverage, vehicle owners must ensure that every logbook service is completed at an authorised Nissan dealer. These services must be performed within the manufacturer’s scheduled intervals, though Nissan provides a grace period of 60 days or 3000 kilometres from the scheduled date or mileage. For electric vehicle owners, this program works in tandem with the existing eight-year/160,000-kilometre lithium-ion battery health warranty, which protects against capacity loss below nine bars.

Nissan is making a habit of taking things Mitsubishi does first and making them better.

In an effort to reward current customers, Nissan is backdating the program to include eligible vehicles purchased new from January 1, 2023. Owners who have consistently serviced their vehicles within the Nissan network will see their warranty coverage extended automatically, while the program offers a pathway for owners who have previously serviced their vehicles elsewhere to re-enter the scheme by completing a scheduled service and a $99 Nissan More Vehicle Assessment at an authorised dealership.

Beyond the impressive warranty, Nissan says the new program also includes up to 10 years of 24/7 nationwide roadside assistance. This coverage is renewed annually with each qualifying dealer service and provides support for emergency situations such as flat tyres, battery jump-starts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest Nissan dealer. Electric vehicle owners also receive specialised EV support, including battery charging assistance and transportation of cars to authorised EV service centres if necessary.

To provide owners with total cost transparency, Nissan has also introduced Flat Price Servicing for the first five scheduled services on eligible models. Under this structure, the Qashqai and X-Trail models, including e-Power variants, are priced at $499 per service. The Navara, Patrol, and Z models are set at a fixed price of $599. These prices cover labour, genuine Nissan parts, and lubricants.

The current Patrol isn't long for this world, but it will still be covered by Nissan's warranty for the next 10 years. Provided you get it serviced at a Nissan service centre, that is.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Nissan More Ownership Program to New Zealand,” said Michael Hill, Director Aftersales, Nissan Oceania.

“This program delivers industry-leading peace of mind, cost certainty, and long-term value for our customers, whether they’re new owners or have been part of the Nissan family since 2023. By extending warranty coverage, roadside assistance, and fixed-price servicing, we’re rewarding loyalty and making ownership simpler and more predictable than ever.

“This program isn’t just for new cars — it also adds value when it comes time to sell, as the warranty is fully transferable to the next owner, supporting future resale value."

The Nissan More Ownership Program is available exclusively through authorised Nissan New Zealand dealers for vehicles sold within the New Zealand market. While it covers a wide range of local models, it does not apply to grey imports, even if they are purchased through a Nissan dealership.
