Nissan have announced a new full-electric, Nismo-enhanced Leaf will go on sale at the end of the month, but only in its homeland.
The model is based on the second generation Leaf that debuted in 2017, and Nissan say the Nismo version will offer all the performance and 'excitement' you'd expect from the company's in-house performance brand.
Despite sitting on the same platform and architecture, the Nissan Leaf Nismo features a custom tuning computer that's said to greatly improve responsiveness and acceleration, but no specific performance figures have been revealed ahead of its arrival in Japanese dealerships from 31 July.
Being the sporty model however, its likely the Leaf Nismo will be fitted with Nissan's optional 60kWh battery pack and 110kW electric motor, delivering a range of over 360km and 320Nm of torque.

The Leaf Nismo uses custom tyres, 18-inch aluminium wheels and updated suspension for improved handling and ride comfort. The electric power steering has also been re-calibrated for a more sporty feel.
Nismo have also specially tuned Nissan's Intelligent Trace Control (corner stabilisation), traction control and anti-lock braking systems.
A set of Nismo badges set the new model apart from a standard Leaf, as well as custom LED lights and custom body kit with all-new grille, bumpers, side sill protector and black door mirrors.
Apart from looking better, Nissan say the updated bodywork with characteristic layered double wings of Nismo's petrol-powerd road car series improves downforce without compromising drag and range.
In the cabin, Leaf Nismo models gain a Alcantara-wrapped sports steering wheel, Nismo instrument gauges, carbon-like finish dashboard and custom seats.
Leaf Nismo will also be equipped with Nissan's latest safety package including semi-autonomous ProPILOT and ProPILOT Park features that helped the standard model achieve a 5-star safety ratings from both the Japan New Car Assessment Program and the European New Car Assessment Program.
But unfortunately for us, and the rest of the world for that matter, there are no plans to bring the Leaf Nismo to markets other than Japan.
