Mustang falls flat over the ditch, as new cop-car options get tested
As the Commodore and Falcon sadly wind down on their production, both Australia and New Zealand are now in the process of trialing replacements.
While New Zealand’s contenders have so far been limited to the Toyota Aurion Sportivo and the Holden Cruze (the latter is unconfirmed, but I… I mean, a *friend of mine* was recently pulled over by one), Australia — specifically the New South Wales — been having a play with the new Ford Mustang. And the results have been somewhat surprising; failure.
Yep, Australian media have reported that the new pony failed a highway patrol test that all four-wheeled members of the ‘five-oh’ must pass. The failure stemmed from the Mustang’s automatic transmission, which overheated during testing.
After just three minutes.
Like a dog (or indeed a horse) with its tail between its legs, the Mustang engaged its limp home mode before retiring to a Ford dealership.
Unlike the NCEA, where the system is happy to massage your fail into a rousing pass, failure reportedly means failure for the ‘Stang — as the New South Welsh now look at options like Volvo’s ‘show me the jandle’ S60 Polestar and Volkswagen’s ‘Dentist gone mental’ Golf R wagon.
My vote? Why not both…
