Forza Horizon 3 confirmed to be set in Australia
The annual E3 gaming convention in Los Angeles sounds like my idea of hell, with the collision of irrelevant celebrities, PR spokespeople fueled with hyperbole and Red Bull, and the sweaty unwashed masses in the cheap seats hootin' and hollerin'. But, quite often it's the scene of some of the biggest announcements in gaming — including car gaming.
Most notably for 2016, the developers of Forza Horizon 3 — the latest open-world 'simcade' from the franchise — confirmed that, among other things, the latest version of the game would be set across the ditch in Australia.
Reportedly twice the size of the world in Forza Horizon 2, players will gain the ability to hoon around what many in New Zealand will consider familiar roads. While the whole of Australia isn't replicated (I'm not sure a race through and around Cumnock or Blacktown would get the go ahead), you can still explore some well known scenes, like the Yarra Valley and the fittingly named Great Ocean Road in Victoria.
As you'd expect, there's a few other bits and pieces that have been added to the game to give it an edge over Horizon 2. The multiplayer online experience has been given a tweak, the car list is the longest it's ever been for a Horizon title, there's more modifying, more parts, the ability to tune is back — the list goes on and on.
The car gaming scene is as competitive as ever, but Horizon seems to be making all of the right moves. It will be released on September 27.
