Dale Earnhardt, Jr tweeted out that he plans on donating his brain to science to further concussion research.
The NASCAR star linked to an article from Sports Illustrated about former Oakland Raiders' stars saying they planned on donating their brains in honor of former teammate Ken Stabler.
Stabler, who died last July, had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease that has been tied to multiple blows to the head.
fter tweeting out the article, a fan replied: 'Seems like a pretty big commitment.'
Earnhardt, Jr responded: 'Why? What use is it to you at that point? I'm gonna donate mine.'
The racing champion has suffered his own head trauma in the last few years.
The first came in August of 2012 at the Kansas Speedway. Earnhardt, Jr blew a tire and hit a wall, causing a concussion, which the 41-year-old tried to hide.
Earnhardt, Jr's next concussion came just two months later in October after the driver spun out on the Talladega Speedway.
Earnhardt, Jr went to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's concussion program and missed the next two races to be examined..
Two years later NASCAR made baseline concussion testing for its drivers mandatory.
