Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk has revealed new details of the firms planned pickup truck - and asked customers what they want to see in the eagerly anticipated vehicle.
Last year, Musk confirmed that the car would be Tesla's next vehicle after the upcoming release of the Model Y.
Now, more details of the plans have been revealed.
'Tesla Truck will have dual motor all-wheel drive with crazy torque and a suspension that dynamically adjusts for the load,' Musk confirmed.
Musk also said that the dual motor powertrain is going to be standard, like it is with Model S and Model X, along with the dynamic suspension.
He is also considering having the back wheels of the car turn, based on a Twitter suggestion.
It will be equipped with Tesla's autopilot, and Musk said that it was a smaller version of Tesla Semi and 'a pickup truck that can carry a pickup truck.'
He also said the truck will parallel park automatically and be equipped with a 3609 degree camera and sonar.
Musk previously said the pickup would probably be slightly bigger than a Ford F-150 and hinted it could be based on the upcoming Model Y.
Tesla has mainly focused on producing passenger cars over the past decade but has branched out in recent years, including investing in battery production.
Musk has previously hinted that a pickup model was due.
In a message on Twitter last year, he said: 'I promise that we will make a pickup truck right after Model Y.
'Have had the core design/engineering elements in my mind for almost 5 years. Am dying to build it.'
The Model Y is an electric SUV that's due for release in about two years.
Responding to a question about the pickup truck's size 'Will it be F-150 class or larger?', Musk added: 'Similar total size.'
'Maybe slightly bigger to account for a really gamechanging (I think) feature I'd like to add.'
This is not the first expansion of the Tesla range beyond cars, with an electric semi truck planned for production in 2019.
Tesla began accepting preorders for its electric truck in November and revealed it will cost buyers at least US$150,000.
For those who want their truck in a hurry, a special 'founders series' is being made, with US$200,000 required up front to get one of the first 1,000 made.
Musk unveiled the big rig, dubbed the Tesla Semi, by riding the truck into an airport hangar near Los Angeles in front of an invited crowd of what Tesla said were potential truck buyers and Tesla car owners.
'Overall, the Semi is more responsive, covers more miles than a diesel truck in the same amount of time, and more safely integrates with passenger car traffic,' Tesla said.
'Without a trailer, the Tesla Semi achieves 0 to 60 mph in five seconds, compared to 15 seconds in a comparable diesel truck.
'It does 0 to 60 mph in 20 seconds with a full 80,000-pound load, a task that takes a diesel truck about a minute.
'Most notably for truck drivers and other travelers on the road, it climbs five per cent grades at a steady 65 mph, whereas a diesel truck maxes out at 45 mph on a five per cent grade.'
Musk has described electric trucks as Tesla's next effort to move the economy away from fossil fuels through projects including electric cars, solar roofs and power storage.
However, some analysts fear the truck will be an expensive distraction for Tesla, which is burning cash, has never posted an annual profit, and is in self-described 'manufacturing hell' starting up production of the US$35,000 Model 3 sedan.
