New wheels, LEDs and aero tweaks aim to add ES appeal.

New wheels, LEDs and aero tweaks aim to add ES appeal.

  • Modellista revealed a styling accessory kit for the new Lexus ES at Tokyo Auto Salon.
  • The package adds a front splitter, rear diffuser section and satin black mirror caps.
  • Extended side skirts include a multi-colour LED strip and 21-inch forged aluminium wheels.

The latest Lexus ES has swapped its flowing lines for a crisper, more formal shape, and reactions have been mixed. Some admire the cleaner look, while others reckon the big sedan has gone a bit beige.

Enter Modellista. The brand's in-house custom arm has rolled out a styling package at the Tokyo Auto Salon aimed at adding a dash of attitude without upsetting the brief.

A little edge, not a full makeover

Modellista’s approach is measured rather than shouty. Up front, there’s a body-coloured splitter integrated into the bumper, paired with extended side skirts that visually lower the car.

The skirts hide the party trick: a configurable LED light strip that can glow in multiple colours, adding a modern flourish after dark. Satin black mirror caps also feature, offering a subtle contrast against the ES’ paintwork.

None of it screams track refugee, and that’s likely the point. The ES remains a comfort-first sedan, and Modellista’s add-ons aim to sharpen the look without undermining that brief.

Wheels make the biggest difference

The most transformative change sits at the corners. Modellista fits 21-inch forged aluminium wheels with a swirling spoke design that instantly lifts the ES’ stance. Compared with the standard wheels shown when the model debuted, these give the car far more presence.

At the rear, a body-coloured diffuser section tidies things up, adding a hint of sportiness without resorting to fake vents or oversized wings.

It’s all quite restrained, perhaps too restrained for buyers wanting a true visual statement. Those chasing something overtly sporty may still gravitate to the smaller IS, especially in its latest form.

F Sport: will it return?

The outgoing ES offered an F Sport variant, bringing extra visual flair. Lexus hasn’t confirmed whether the new generation will get the same treatment, and Modellista’s kit doesn’t quite fill that gap. Lexus has not disclosed any plans for an ES F Sport yet, though the appetite clearly exists.

For now, the Tokyo show car remains a prototype. Pricing for the production accessories hasn’t been announced, and it’s unclear whether the parts will be offered outside Japan.

Still, Modellista’s tweaks prove the new ES doesn’t have to fade into the background. With the right details (and those wheels), it can hold its own in the executive sedan crowd.
