Two unique JCW one-offs revealed with Deus Ex Machina.

Two unique JCW one-offs revealed with Deus Ex Machina.

  • Mini has revealed two one-off JCW models: the 190kW Skeg EV and 170kW Machina petrol.
  • The Skeg concept integrates surf-inspired design with fibreglass panels, neoprene upholstery and a surfboard-style spoiler.
  • The Machina showcases racing-focused elements with rally-inspired paintwork, bonnet-mounted spotlights and a Can-Am-style rear wing.

Two icons of speed and style have teamed up, producing not one but two bespoke creations - both limited, both loud and both unlikely to hang around showrooms for long.

Two worlds, one garage

Mini’s John Cooper Works division has partnered with Australian custom house Deus Ex Machina for a fresh take on hot hatch cool.

The collab brings two special editions to life: the Mini JCW Nightfall Edition and the Mini JCW Deus Edition. Each is capped at just 20 examples, split evenly between hatch and convertible.

Under the bonnet, there are no tweaks to the familiar 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder. It still punches out 170kW and 320Nm, driving the front wheels through an eight-speed Steptronic sport transmission.

What sets these editions apart is the tailoring, as both cars get distinctive liveries, wheels and interior flourishes that lean heavily on Deus’ surf-skate-moto vibe.

Deus touch of rebellion

On the outside, the Nightfall Edition wears a deep Midnight Black metallic finish with bold white graphics, while the Deus Edition flips it with White Silver metallic with contrasting black.

Each gets 18-inch wheels, red JCW brake calipers, and Deus badging inside and out. Cabin tweaks include illuminated door sills, unique seat tags and bespoke trim inserts.

As Deus’ creative director Carby Tuckwell put it: “It’s been a blast to work with Mini on this project - bringing a bit of Deus DNA into the JCW world, and vice versa.”

Limited numbers, big attitude

Only 40 cars will be built in total (20 of each flavour) and all destined for the Australian market. DRIVEN Car Guide understands Mini  has not disclosed whether allocation will expand beyond that.

Pricing? Mini hasn’t published sticker figures yet, but given the exclusivity and co-branding, expect them to sit a step up from the standard JCW hatch and convertible.

What’s clear is that this is less about outright speed gains and more about fusing two cultures: one born on rally stages, the other on waves and café racer streets.
