Three dealers, including Farmer Motor Group in Tauranga, will lead the rejuvenation of the MG brand in New Zealand.
Chinese giant motor manufacturer SAIC Motor has taken over the distribution of MG models in this country, and has confirmed the appointment of Farmer Motor Group, Cartown in Palmerston North and Cockram Motor Group in Christchurch.
The ceo of MG Motor Australia and New Zealand Petyer Cao, said the company was humbled to be given the opportunity to enhance its operations in New Zealand with the appointment of the first dealers.
"Having only just announced SAIC Motor’s expansion into New Zealand in February, we’re delighted by this swift momentum, and to be working with trusted and experienced dealerships to guide the brand in this new chapter," he said.
The three dealers would offer sales and service for new and existing MG customers, and would bring the MG3 Auto and the MG ZS to the country for the first time. Doors were now open at each dealership.
The MG3 is a small hatchback and sells from $17,990 plus on-road costs, while the MG ZS compact SUV was available from $23,990 plus on-road costs. The larger MG GS SUV has been available for some time, and starts at $27,990 plus on-road costs.
The group managing director of the Farmer Motor Group, Mike Farmer, said the models would be sold from a separate site in Hewletts Rd, which would be lead by David Briscoe.
"The Farmer Motor Group has been bringing automotive excellence to the Bay of Plenty for more than 25 years, and we're very excited to now bring the historic MG marque to our customers," he said.
