- The MG HS Hybrid+ delivers 165kW/340Nm and 5.2L/100km fuel consumption with a 1.83kWh battery.
- The HS Super Hybrid achieves 220kW/350Nm and up to 120km WLTP electric range with 0.7L/100km fuel use.
- Pricing spans $44,990 to $56,990, with up to 10 years/250,000km warranty coverage available.
MG New Zealand has pulled the covers off two new HS variants: the Hybrid+ and the range-topping Super Hybrid, supplementing the existing petrol models while marking the completion of its mid-sized SUV lineup.
Both hybrid models promise lower running costs and impressive flexibility, with the Super Hybrid going particularly hard on distance.
Hybrid+ means business
Sitting at the entry point is the HS Hybrid+, pairing a 1.5-litre turbo engine with a 146kW electric motor and a 1.83kWh battery. Together they push out 165kW and 340Nm, with fuel consumption listed at 5.2L/100km.
Drivers can tweak regenerative braking between Low and High, while the stretched 4670mm length and 1890mm width translate to more cabin space. Drop the rear seats and you’ll reveal a hefty 1484L boot.
Super Hybrid goes the distance
The new HS Super Hybrid is the headline act. A 154kW/340Nm traction motor combines with its petrol engine for a beefy 220kW and 350Nm overall.
More impressive is the claimed 120km pure electric WLTP range, well above many plug-in rivals, and an eyebrow-raising 1000km-plus total range when fully charged and fuelled.
Cabin upgrades include dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and wireless charging. Fuel economy is rated at 0.7L/100km.
Pricing and arrival
Both variants are front-wheel drive and come in Excite or Essence trims. The Hybrid+ kicks off at $44,990, while the Super Hybrid starts at $52,990. MG backs them with up to 10 years/250,000km coverage if serviced within the dealer network, plus roadside assistance.
Dean Sheed, MG New Zealand’s Country Business Manager, said the lineup is now “a great option for families looking for an efficient and powerful mid-sized SUV without compromise.” Stuart Mitchell, MG’s ANZ EV & Hybrid director, added the Super Hybrid lets drivers “fuel up, charge the battery and drive over 1,000kms, giving them the freedom to go anywhere they want.”
The HS Hybrid+ is already at dealerships nationwide, with the Super Hybrid following in early October.
