The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV is not just any luxury SUV; it's Maybach's first all-electric model.

Now unveiled for the New Zealand market, this opulent SUV blends cutting-edge electric performance with the traditional luxury and craftsmanship synonymous with the Maybach name.

Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management for Mercedes-Benz Group AG, states, “The very first all-electric vehicle from Mercedes-Maybach complements the best technologies from Mercedes-Benz with the extra comfort and individual details that are only available from Mercedes-Maybach.”

This sentiment is echoed by Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach, who adds, “Our customers can look forward to an absolutely top-class electric driving experience – with the aura of the extraordinary that is typical of Maybach.”

Electric performance and range

At the heart of the EQS 680 SUV are two permanently excited synchronous e-motors, generating a combined output of 484kw/950Nm.

This powerhouse setup ensures all four wheels are driven via the 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, propelling the vehicle from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds. With a top speed of 210km/h and a commendable driving range of 662km, this SUV delivers both speed and endurance.

Charging capabilities are equally impressive, with the EQS 680 SUV supporting up to 200kW at DC fast charging stations. This capability allows the battery to be recharged from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 31 minutes.

Comfort and luxury

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV prioritises passenger comfort, particularly for those in the rear seats. Standard features include executive rear seats equipped with ventilation, massage functions, neck and shoulder heating, and a calf massage.

The Chauffeur Package further enhances comfort by automatically adjusting the front passenger seat when the rear seat is reclined.

Optional upgrades include the First Class Rear Suite, which adds plush rear armchairs, a heated centre console, temperature-controlled cupholders, and even a refrigerated compartment with champagne flute holders. For entertainment, the rear seats boast a pair of 11.6-inch displays.

Advanced tech

Technological sophistication is a hallmark of the EQS 680 SUV. The MBUX Hyperscreen spans the width of the dashboard, incorporating three high-resolution digital screens under a single layer of Perspex.

Mercedes says its system allows up to 80 per cent of common interactions to be performed without changing applications, thanks to its 'zero-layer' technology.

Adaptive ambient lighting, which includes 253 individually controllable LEDs, enhances the luxurious atmosphere. The Burmester 4D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos ensures an immersive audio experience with 15 speakers and additional exciters in each seat.

Distinctive design

Externally, the EQS 680 SUV features exclusive design elements, such as the upright Mercedes star on the bonnet and an imposing black front panel with chrome-plated strips. The vehicle’s side profile is accentuated by bold chrome trim elements and 22-inch Maybach light alloy wheels.

Inside, the use of vegetable-tanned leather, recycled materials, and sustainable manufacturing processes reflect the brand's commitment to sustainability. Features like the Econyl carpet, made from recycled materials, and the inclusion of secondary steel and recycled aluminium further highlight this dedication.
